one thing i love about my job, a preschool teacher, is all the "frank" and "honest" comments from my students. i believe if we were more like 3-5 years there would be a lot less confusion on where we stood with people and how others felt about us. i have been a fortunate recipient of a few of these comments...one in particular, was last week. I'm not sure why at the ripe age of 28 years old, i'm still battling some form of post puberty acne, but regardless of what i do to cover these headaches up, someone is bound to notice.
so last friday during a nice lunch, one of my little students, with a "black southern accent" sitting next to me asked, "Ms. Brie, why do you have polka dots right there?"
"polka dots?" i replied,
"Yeah, right there, and there and there," pointing at my chin.
I just started laughing...and couldn't stop.
She then had the gall, at 5 years old, to continue pointing out that I have "red polka dots" on my chin and "brown polka dots" on my cheeks.
I was dying at this point and informed the other teachers why I was laughing so hard...and then they started laughing.
Well, being the professional that i am..:) I proceeded to educate this little girl that the "red polka dots" are "blemishes" and the "brown polka dots" are freckles. I did point out to her that she had freckles on her face too...and that one day, she might be the recipient of red polka dots too.

I love this post. How funny. I remember asking my father one time why he had so many slivers in his face. I thought that his whiskers were slivers. Everyone laughed so hard at my comment. You gotta love little kids.
Ya little Daniel, 5 yrs old, has asked me that same thing but instead he just said, red spots. Too funny!
I heard a rumor once that your mom has never had a pimple! True?
