Back to School
Back to school, back to school, to prove to dad I'm not a fool!!! Well, more like back to work, but yesterday was the day. I have about 2 weeks of training and orientation, and then I get students at the end of the month. I am looking forward to teaching my little rugrats this year. I'll have 20 kids and 2 assistants..the way it should be in a preschool. My amazing asst. Dawn and I were setting our classroom up today, which has to be my one of may favorite parts of the beginning of a school year, and I was imagining my kids doing language puzzles, exploring the properties of some awesome green goop that looks like snot, and dressing up in the play area. I love to imagine what this year will bring- and sometimes I don't even want to know. However, I do know that I have 4 kids speaking only Russian, 4 speaking only Chinese, 5-6 only Spanish speaking and the rest speaking good ole fashion English....I need a mini human interpreter that can fit in my pocket and can translate at any given moment...much like the lepruchan on Darby O'Gil and the little people...about that size. as soon as i read your title i totally started singing billy madison, so happy we are on the same wavelength.
how is there so many different languages? that is nuts. but i totally want to come play in your classroom with the green snot goop stuff.
A few years ago I had a student that spoke only English. Luckily, another kid in my class, who spoke fluent Spanish and broken English, translated for me. It worked out great! And, for parent-teacher-conference, I had my brother come in who seved his mission in Mexico. Oh, and we used to watch Darby O'Gil and the Little People all the time when we were kids!
Um, Darby O'Gill and the little people is an all-time favorite of mine, of course. The banshee left a frightening imprint on my young mind though. Never have liked looking up into a dark cloudy sky since... I can't believe my parents let me watch that! But isn't the "oh he is my dear my darling one, his eyes so sparkling full of fun..." song the best? I sing it all the time.
Oh, and about school. really, body language can only express so much, brie. Do they think you're a wizard? how are you supposed to teach these kids? Good luck!
p.s. I love eva's teacher because she kinda acts like you (I mean, she tries)- it's highly endearing.
wow brie, that sounds like a challenge! I wouldn't even know where to begin! I'd say make up a new language all together!!
Thanks for keeping us in your prayers Brie. We're doing pretty good. Good luck with the new year and new challenges. I can't imagine!
Cam is loving his new school. He is a pre-k penguin and of course they have a little mascot that he is coveting. He will get to take him home sometime.
Love you!
Sounds like you school year is going to be pretty crazy. I can't believe you have all those different languages in you class. WOW...You'll be great though. Enjoy. At least they are still so innocent and cute at that age (for the most part :) )
Hey sweet pea, it is me Kendra. I have big hair, is that ringing any bells??? I love looking at your blog- you freaking crack me up!!! My favorite is the lady walking her BIRD outside, I tell everyone about that. Anywho- what have you crazy kids been up to?? Oh, wait, just read your blog, I am so embarrassed.
